Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

To all my Muslim friends I wish to take this opportunity to wish you all

And
"Drive Carefully"

Website

It was a disappointing day for me as the website that I was currently working with a member was not approved. The simple reason was they are willing to pay a company to run it. Reason given by the persons who got the quotation was - website maintained by volunteers (you and me) will not last long. Nobody to update etc.

They are willing to pay RM 800.00 and RM 50.00 (each time to update info). The people who got the quote does not even understand a nut about IT! I remember in the last State Officer meeting it was agreed that we will discuss the matter in this coming meeting. And after that a member approached me to help out designing it. So we have been working and planned to present it but when asked permission to present, answer given NO already award the contract to a private company! What ! This is public funds and before you decide it should be tabled in the meeting !

You should visit the RM 800.00 web and see it for yourself : www.sjampk.org.

State Commander asked me to work with the culprits but I have to declined. I know the SC was not happy with my statement but I have to put my foot down and say no simply because we are paying RM 800.00. If we are paying then the website developer MUST do their job to justify the payment RM 800.00! Further I don't think I can work with people who are self centered and who do not accept suggestions and ideas, who has personal agenda!

But our work will not go to waste as the present website sjamperak.co.cc will be converted to a Cadet & St. John Junior Website. I plan to put up more info for Cadets and St. John Juniors. This has been agreed in the meeting was approved by the State Commander.

I am also disappointed and angered that the webmasters of that page is just copying stuff from www.sjamperak.co.cc and claiming that it is their work! Don't be fooled as the company that is developing it, is just copying everything from the previous website and the current one. So RM 800.00 gone to waste !

Here I wish to say that volunteerism cannot be bought. Only those who have the volunteerism spirit and understand the organization will be able to do much more. VOLUNTEERISM WILL NOT DIE !

SJAM Flag Emblem

Just to clarify some things which i mentioned in my previous blog with regards to SJAM Emblem. Some members were asking how about our Flag? Why our flag the Lions and Unicorn are Yellow in colour?

Above is a sample of our Flag. Only our Flag the Lions and Unicorns are allowed to be yellow in colour.

First Aid Kit - Part 3

As a First Aider, do you have a personal FIRST AID KIT?

Why should I have one?

Division got mah! For what!

If you ask most of our officers and members, I believe many don’t have or not even bothered.

Remember as a First Aider we are taught to be prepared, so are you ready?

Imagine you are at home; suddenly one of your family members is injured. What do you do?

Improvise; rush your family member to the nearest clinic or hospital.

Or

Imagine you and your family are on a holiday, camping and suddenly someone in your family member injured, what will you do?

You can convert any type of bag or box into a First Aid Kit but the most important thing is it must be practical.

Before I talk about improvising, let me show you some of my collections:

Type : Back Pack First Aid Kit

Bought it in Mid Valley, KL. My Favorite Kit. It can be used for outdoor activities hiking, camping etc. Added the SJAM Reflective emblem. Has plenty of storage space and compartments.

Inner View (of compartments and storage space)

St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) Device

St. John Ambulance began in Malaya in 1908. During the World War Two, members of the Brigade served along side with the British Medical Auxiliary Service (MAS). After the War, the government formed lay units in various states.

In 1972, an Act of Parliament merged the St. John Ambulance Association (SJAA) and St. John Ambulance Brigade (SJAB) into a single entity known today as the St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM).

Sections 13, 14 and 15 of the St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (Incorporation) Act 74, 1972 provide that the device of the SJAM is protected the name of "St. John" and the emblem from unauthorized use.

The St. John Ambulance of Malaysia device

All official use of the SJAM device is stated in the General Regulations of the St. John Ambulance of Malaysia, 1996 and should be accurately represented in the following manner:

  • The white St. John cross with the white Royal Lions and Unicorns encircled in a black background when used as black and white. No other part of the cross shall be changed.
  • The name "St. John Ambulans" in Malay shall be used. English representation of the name shall not be used in Malaysia.
  • Note the "T" in "St.". For the device purpose, the period shall be underneath the letter "T". However, for written purpose, the normal convention of writing shall be used i.e., "St."
  • The name "St. John Ambulans" starts from the lower point of the left cross and all around towards the lower point of the right cross. The "N" in "John" and the "M" in "Ambulans" shall be directly above to left and right points of the top cross respectively.
  • The word "Malaysia" shall be represented at the bottom of the device with the first "A" and "S" directly below the left and right points of the bottom cross respectively.

No other alterations to the SJAM device shall be permitted. If in doubt, kindly contact the Hon. Secretary-General of SJAM or your State/Regional Commander.

SJAM Emblem

The CORRECT Emblem Design of SJAM

We are celebrating our 100 years of existence and yet there are still things which we can’t get it right. I wonder is it just our ignorance or Malaysian “tidak apa” attitude. The most important image of our organization, our EMBLEM/LOGO what ever you want to call it!

It’s not difficult to get it, it is in our website http://www.sjam.org.my/ or you can always request from me and I will be delighted to e-mail you a copy.

The simple term is “Ask and you will be given!”.

Let me share with you a incident which just happened last month. Recently some smart a** took the 100 years logo and made a key chain out of it. They were proud and boasting about what they did. As I was chatting with Mr. Lai See Ming, Chief of Staff (Operations) SJAM, he showed me the key chain and asked me what mistake I can see in the key chain. It was damn obvious the word “MALAYSIA” was printed upside down! I was really shocked and ashamed and was wondering who was the smart a** who made a fool out of himself.
"Looks nice from far, but look closer"

"Look at our emblem, and the word -MALAYSIA"
And as usual denial like
“The printer did it”
“I gave this design and he do different”

“The computer mistake”
Then why the heck you accept wrong printed product!

You should not even give full payment!
As a consumer I will reject defective product!
Whose money you use to print the key chain?
Enough of the blaming and pointing fingers!

Let’s see the wrong emblem designs:

Our emblem does not have any other colour. Only BLACK AND WHITE.

The Unicorn and Lion is black and white.

This is the International St. John Ambulance emblem used by SJA UK.

Anyway below is the correct image of our emblem/logo.

Ambulance in Perak - Part 2

I talked about our ambulance bad condition. Let's look at the ambulance one by one. Let's start with AEK 6908. AEK 6908 is a Inokom Permas donated by the Rotary Club. Although it is donated to the State HQ, currently it is assigned to Central Area.

It is a very spacious vehicle. You can stand in it. It is suitable to be used in the city limits but not for long journeys.
Equipments (First Aid) on board are Ambulance Stretcher, Spine Board (Long & Short), Head Imobilizer, Cervical Collars, Oxygen Tank, Double fold stretcher, First Aid Kit. The ambulance also has a sink which is never used. The idea was good but it is not practical.
It is high time, the ambulance need a fresh coat of paint and some repairs to the internal furniture such as the wooden cupboards and bench.

Ambulance in Perak - Part 1

I was wondering should I post these photos in this blog? Anyway as Highway Duty is around the corner and this is going to be the 13th year (1996 – 2008) we in Perak participating in it. So I thought why not! Time for change!

Time after time, I have been voicing out this during Highway Duty Training sessions but I feel like talking to people who are not bothered at all. We request public to donate to us but look at how we take care of the donation people has given us? Do you know how hard it is to find money or to get people to donate? During Highway Duty or Public Duties what do the officers and members normally do?

Below are photos of our ambulance condition which I am not proud to share with you but this is the fact.
There you have it, the condition of our ambulance! Who to be blamed? I hope by showing you all this photos, you will change. I think the ambulance is everyone's responsibility.

It is not late to change and improve.
